POSITION SUMMARY
This is skilled work at the journeyman level in directing and performing work involving the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of electrical systems, equipment and fixtures. Employee in this class is responsible for supervising a crew performing a wide variety of skilled tasks on heavy pieces of electrical equipment. Instructions relating to work assignments may be oral or written, and may be accompanied by sketches and blueprints. Work is ordinarily checked by observation of the performance of equipment installed, repaired or maintained.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
• Supervises' daily electrical maintenance on electrical systems and equipment consisting of conveyor systems, cranes, loaders and unloaders, and high voltage switchgear.
• Directs and performs electrical repairs and maintenance necessary to ensure safe and continuous operation of electrical support systems.
• Installs and repairs power distribution systems, transformer banks, and emergency generators.
• Inspects electrical malfunctions and diagnoses problems using test instruments.
• Periodically checks operation of electrical systems and equipment for safe and proper operation.
• Requisitions parts and materials needed to make repairs; maintains inventory of spare parts.
• Completes daily maintenance logs and work reports indicating time and materials used.
• Performs related work as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• High school graduate plus two years of vocational training required.
• Four years work experience in residential electrical maintenance or construction.
• Possession of an electrical license issued by board of licensing of electricians.
• Must have attained Journeyman certification.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
• Knowledge of the policies, procedures, rules and regulations that apply to the practice in an inpatient care setting.
• Provide departmental leadership, training of new employees and ongoing education and training of all departmental staff.
• Knowledge of hospital/departmental policies and procedures, emergency protocols, Joint Commission, Center for Medicare and Medicaid services and all other local and federal regulatory standards
• Ability to make presentations before management, public groups, and staff.
• Ability to install, alters, repairs, maintain and locate defects in a variety of electrical equipment and systems.
• Interpret blueprints and electrical specifications.
• Knowledge of the applicable electrical codes.
• Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the electrical trade and of work with high voltages.
• Ability to properly use necessary tools and equipment.
• Knowledge of analytical and grammatical skills necessary to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
• Skilled in maintaining records and preparing reports.
• Familiarity with spreadsheet and overall computer skills.
• Ability to work with a wide variety of other professionals and staff engaged in the delivery of health care services.
• Ability to gain the confidence and respect of the public to be served.
• Ability to work well independently including without administrative support when required.
• Organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills are essential.
• Ability to work in a highly visible position undergoing significant changes with multiple constituents, each with demands exceeding resources.
• Ability to work independently.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work in a climate-controlled and well-lighted environment with a smoke-free policy. Employee will work in an office and throughout the building daily. Has Category 1 risk of exposure to infectious diseases, but receives training in hand hygiene practices, Universal Precautions and has access to personal protective equipment if direct exposure is anticipated; is subject to interruptions and noise daily.
