Birchfield School is an independent preparatory and senior school for boys and girls aged 4-13 located in a rural setting near Albrighton, Shropshire and is a member of IAPS and ISA.
We are extending our senior school offering to Year 11 - our first Year 9 cohort joins the school in September 2023.
We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified teacher with a specialism in Computing to teach pupils across the age ranges and up to GCSE.
The role covers 1.5 days per week with further hours possible for candidates able to teach other subject areas.
Closing Date: March 14th at 9am
Interviews will take place in the week starting Monday, 21st March
Purpose of the Role
● Lead the development, management and strategic direction of the department
● Be accountable for raising pupil/student achievement in the department
Responsibilities
● Plan and teach all curriculum lessons and take responsibility for the management of the department, communicating and implementing information and good practice.
● Create a comprehensive programme of study, supporting the progress of pupils’ skills through detailed planning and challenging activities.
● Advise teaching staff on appropriate apps or software which may enhance the teaching of their subjects also.
● Work with the Assistant Head and Network Manager in logging and reporting any access to inappropriate websites etc..
● Reinforcing safe use of the internet by regular teaching to pupils and sharing any valuable articles and guidance with pupils and parents, as appropriate.
● Liaise with the Network Manager to ensure that the equipment is suitable and ready for pupil use.
● Ensuring assessment and feedback strategies are of the highest standards and have a direct
impact on improving the quality of teaching and learning.
General
● Use ICT effectively within the curriculum to enhance teaching and learning.
● Set a good example to children through presentation, personal appearance and conduct.
● Attend all INSET, staff meetings, parents’ evenings, Open Mornings and CPD as required.
● Establish effective, professional working relationships with colleagues.
● Contribute to departmental activity beyond the curriculum.
Person Specification
A fully qualified teacher with relevant school experience - Essential
Experience of teaching pupils across different Key Stages- Essential
A specialism and related qualifications in Computing/IT- Essential
An ability to contribute to other subjects - Desirable
Experience in delivery a GCSE Computing programme of study (preferred)
The ability to communicate effectively with pupils of all abilities and motivate them through innovation and technique- Essential
Excellent organisation, time management, communication and interpersonal skills- Essential
Attention to detail and pride in meeting deadlines- Essential
Strong skills in assessment and use of data to maximise pupil progress- Essential
Success in personalising learning to meet pupil needs- Essential
The ability to work autonomously and as part of a team- Essential
An adaptable and professional approach- Essential
