Duties & Responsibilities

Our reputable Construction client is seeking a Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality (SHEQ) Manager to join their team based in De Aar – Northern Cape

Purpose of the job- Responsible for the effective implementation and improvement of the Company SHEQ Management System throughout the company, to ensure adherence to client specifications and applicable legislation.

Working Conditions- Normal offices conditions – 50%

Dusty, noisy, and dirty sites – 50%

Salary:

Market-related depending on experience

Requirements:
• Qualifications listed- Grade 12 (Matric)
• Diploma/Degree in Health, Safety and Environmental Management. MUST
• Driver's licence and own vehicle
• Must be Registered with SACPCMP( South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions ) as a professional SHEQ officer
• 6-8 years in the construction industry
• 5 years as a SHE Officer (must be for Civils)
• OHS Act & Construction Regulations.
• Basic Conditions of the Employment Act.
• National Environmental Manage Act.
• COID Act.
• Labour Relations Act.
• Mines Health & Safety Act
• Incident Investigation.
• Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment.
• Root Cause Analysis Technique.
• Internal Auditors.
• Job Observation.
• OHS Act & Construction Regulations.
• SHE Management course.
• Environmental Management.
• Scaffold erector / inspector.
• Hazardous Chemical Substances handling.
• Fall Protection Planner.
• COID Act.
• Training product knowledge.
• ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and / or ISO 45001 and OHSAS 18001 Lead Auditor

Key Performance Areas- Development and improvement of policies, procedures, and all relevant forms.

Ensuring successful implementation of the SHEQ Management System.

Develop ISO and / or OHSAS certifications where applicable and maintain certifications.

Training and Development of Staff (direct & indirect) in relation to the SHEQ Management System.

Responsible for auditing all sites with regards to SHEQ compliance.

Responsible for SHEQ Legal Compliance.

Implementing initiatives to maintain or reduce Company’s SHEQ incident ratio, as per the prescribed targets.

Responsibilities:
• Ensure that SHEQ related resolutions and directives of the Board of Directors and its committees are carried out.
• Responsible for SHEQ Management System implementation and activities of the Company.
• Ensure that the Company conforms at all times to the laws of the Republic of South Africa as far as practically possible.
• Responsible for implementation of long-term plans of the SHEQ policies and procedures in the Company and providing necessary strategic goals and directions to the organization.
• Train, motivate, evaluate and reward SHEQ staff at all levels.
• Approve SHEQ implementation strategies.
• Implement SHEQ Management Programme.
• Coordinate, control and manage the performances of subordinates.
• Updating of SHEQ Management Systems/ Legal Compliance – yearly review.
• Reports to Board – Monthly.
• Meetings with SHEQ staff – Monthly
• Meetings with Board and Management - Monthl
• Audits on sites – Monthly
