Introduction
The Xina Solar One Power Station is a 100 MW (130,000 hp) concentrated solar power plant in South Africa. Constructed between 2014 and 2016, the power station was commercially commissioned in 2017. The solar component of this power station is complemented by molten salt thermal storage technology, which allows the power station to provide full power for another 5.5 hours, after the sun goes down, thus supplying energy during South African peak hours. The consortium that owns the solar farm comprises a foreign independent power producer (IPP), two domestic finance development companies and a local charity. The energy generated here is sold directly to Eskom, the South African national electricity utility company, under a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA)
The Job Holder will be appointed as a Xina Operations and Maintenance (Pty) Ltd employee and will be based at the following registered address: Xina Solar One Portion 4 Farm Scuit - Klip 92 Pofadder Northern Cape
JOB PURPOSE
The Electrical Engineer will be responsible to monitor power plant processes and equipment, provide engineering designs and technical solutions, solve technical problems in collaboration with Operations and Maintenance and support the Maintenance Manager in executing department objectives.

Functional Activities
• Execute design work
• Performs prefeasibility designs by taking into account the end user requirements specifications as well as the technology trends including those from the Original Equipment manufacturers
• Performs concept, basic and detailed design in compliance with the stakeholder requirements, relevant standards and other design criteria to achieve an optimum asset base.
• Performs design analysis on design alternatives to aid the design decision
• Performs appropriate interface design and interface management
• Contributes to the documentation of the design packages and submit these for the governance approvals as required by the business
• Contributes to the integrity of the asset base
• Perform detailed technical engineering investigations where root causes and resulting remedial actions measures are identified and documented
• Make recommendations on reducing technical risk, improving reliability of asset through plant health assessment, trending of incidents, analysis of data and the monitoring of the plant.
• Provide technical support to Operations and Maintenance for problems or incident resolution
• Develop Maintenance strategies with spare strategy document. Update the strategy documents at least once a year or when necessary
• Performs task required ensure compliance with license conditions, legislation, regulations and other industry codes
• Adhere to and provide inputs to Health, Safety and Environmental policies
• Analyse and provide input into optimizing the auxiliary electricity consumption of the plant and other consumables
• Deliver on the Management of Change objectives
• Update the maintenance Key Performance Indicators as required
• Keep technical information updated
• Analyse the performance of the plant against the performance models
• Implement recommendations, remedial actions and corrective actions from the investigation report.
• Find improvement areas for the performance of the plant and equipment
• Compile and issue technical engineering reports
• Prepare monthly performance reports and submit within the required deadlines
• Perform routine weekly and monthly technical reporting
• Develop and maintain plant monitoring tools
• Develop life of plant plan projects
• Develop outage scope of work and assist in the execution of the outage
• Performs technical studies
• Develop technical, refurbishment and obsolescence plans whilst considering the impact of both supply and demand alternatives
• Performs studies to determine parameters and risks
• Performs technical studies to validate proposed solutions or that could lead to new or improved solutions.
• Conduct cost analysis for technical solutions
• Deliver standardization outputs
• Perform task required for the implementation of standards
• Provide information on the deficiencies of procedures/standards and Implement improvements to procedures/standards
• Develop and review plant procedures
• Manage the compliance to all safety, health, environment and fire requirements
• Manage the section human resources
• Manage the performance management system
• Implement actions to meet Xina O&M KPI’s
• Manage industrial relations
• Approve all the administrative related requests i.e. leave application, timesheets, overtime worked, standby roster
• Interview candidates and make recommendations
• Manage training and authorization of personnel

• Compile section budget and inputs to financial plan
• Approve expenditure within the delegation of authority
• Investigate and explain budget variances
• Do financial projections short and long term, implement control mechanism
• Perform any other duties as required by the Maintenance Manager.

Essential Qualifications:
• Degree /Diploma in Electrical Engineering
• Electrical certification and / or HV switching certification is an added advantage
• GCC (Electrical – Factories) is an added advantage
• Professional Registration Body (ECSA as a candidate Engineer)
• Driver’s license
Experience:
• Minimum 4 years of experience in Power Plants or Chemical Industry with experience in Electrical engineering
• At least 5-year experience in HV /LV Electrical maintenance & Transmission of a large power generation plant or continuous process plants, of which at least 2 years in a similar position or a supervisory role.
• Hands-on experience in the maintenance and repair of major PLC’s and control equipment’s.
• Hands-on experience in the maintenance and repair of Electrical equipment’s of steam or gas turbines generators (SIEMENS).
• Hands-on experience in the maintenance, repair and testing of protection equipment, generators / transformers, UPS batteries; HV / LV switchgears, fire & gas and SCADA systems (SIEMENS PCS7 / ABB protection relays).
