Production Supervisor at Labl Fashion . Voi, Taita–Taveta, Kenya
The apparel production assistant is in charge of the quality and volume of the product before it is shipped out for market distribution. He cooperates with the research and development division of the company to make sure apparel products conform to company standards. He also works with the manufacturing and production departments to monitor production and make sure no undershipments or overshipments of products are made. He also researches trends, fashions, or fads and targets certain age groups to create products that will suit the taste of that specific group.
The production assistant is responsible for the execution of all production work, including converting inputs into outputs as per the apparel buyer’s instructions and thus making value additions. He or she delivers goods on a designated shipment date. S/He is responsible for cutting, sewing, finishing, and maintenance sections and works through the different heads of the departments of the ready-made apparel factory. S/He generally reports to the apparel manufacturing general manager.
Apparel production assistants need to update themselves on the latest fashion trends because they are responsible for constantly studying product competition and looking for flaws in their designs. Through their observations and analysis, the apparel production assistant then designs better and more appealing products and advertises them with the goal of “selling” their apparel. Another aspect of the apparel production assistant’s responsibility is the quality of the product. They make sure all outgoing products pass company standards and that the products meet customer satisfaction by maintaining quality at a reasonable cost. Apparel production assistants ensure that their product is always the best in the market in terms of durability, attractiveness, and affordability. They control manufacturing output to avoid a glut of products in the market that would drive the price of the product down. They oversee production and curtail unnecessary waste. Apparel production assistants also meet with advertising agencies to promote company products and attend product launches.
Responsibility of the Production Assistant in the Apparel and Textile Industry:
A production assistant generally performs the following tasks:
• The production assistant receives the order plan and order sheet from the senior authorities.
• will prepare textile and apparel production plans on a on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
• will receive material status against each order and will monitor the progress of material received.
• will receive an approved sample swatch card against the order sheet.
• ensures that apparel production lines are properly balanced for target output.
• coordinates with the quality assistant so that defective or faulty goods are not produced.
• provides job assignments to supervisors and other subordinates.
• ensures that the floor, machinery, toilet, and dining spaces are neat and clean.
• ensures that all workstations are properly illuminated.
• will arrange for continuous training of helpers and operators.
• will have a pre-production sample prepared and compared with the originally approved sample.
• ensures to pursue the right work, quality, and maintenance standards.
• ensures that materials are organized at each stage of processing.
• ensures that a congenial atmosphere exists on the floor.
• makes the right evaluation of the performance of his subordinates.
• arranged for proper documentation of all the activities on the floor.
• The production assistant will make arrangements for the right line layout or machine layout.
• As a leader, inspire and unify employees for better work and better motivation.
• ensures that all the machinery is equipped with protective devices.
• organizes pre-production meetings or pre-production activities to discuss related issues.
• will approve the commencement of production against a work order.
• monitors the progress of production against the production plan.
• takes countermeasures if the progress of textile or apparel production is not satisfactory.
• production assistant coordinates with all the concerns so that clothing or textile production progresses as per plan.
• is responsible for ensuring discipline on the floor.
• takes care of the worker’s safety and welfare.
• makes the best efforts to create a congenial work environment, which is called a “win-win situation.”
Production Assistant Requirements:
· A minimum of a college certificate or equivalent and a good understanding of the English language.
· A minimum of one year of experience as a machinist and demonstrated proficiency are required.
· Completion of a sewing course from a recognized institution.
· Demonstrable experience as a sewing machine operator.
· Ability to create, read, and follow patterns.
· Working knowledge of sewing machine mechanics.
· Outstanding eyesight or utilization of corrective measures.
· Innovative, thoughtful, and attentive to detail.
· Top-notch interpersonal skills.
· Ability to manage time effectively.
