Duties & Responsibilities Skills and Competencies Qualifications
• Operations and Service Delivery
• Oversee daily catering operations, ensuring service meets customer expectations and contracts.
• Manage food production, logistics, staff, and compliance with safety and hygiene standards.
• Allocate resources efficiently, manage relief staff, and maintain high service standards through inspections.
• Ensure smooth unit openings/closures and retain contracts by building strong client relationships.
• Manage assets, train staff, and maintain records while following company policies and legal standards.
• Communication & Stakeholder Management
• Hold regular client meetings and document at least one formal meeting per month.
• Respond promptly to client and management requests, taking necessary action.
• Complete monthly reports as agreed with clients, including specific requirements.
• Communicate company information effectively to contract managers and staff.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as the main contact for queries and feedback.
• Labour management/ Team Leadership & Development
• Lead, train, and motivate a diverse catering team, driving continuous improvement.
• Oversee staff scheduling, recruitment, and ensure biometric system adherence.
• Approve salaries, monitor labor/turnover ratios, and ensure disciplinary code compliance.
• Represent the company in CCMA cases and union meetings.
• Conduct performance appraisals, update personnel files, and participate in succession planning.
• Health and Safety/ Compliance & Quality Assurance
• Ensure compliance with OHS requirements, company policies, and legislation.
• Conduct regular audits and inspections for quality and regulatory compliance.
• Ensure all catering activities meet Tsebo’s policies, local laws, and food safety standards.
• Strategic Planning
• Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement strategies for efficiency and growth.
• Identify opportunities to expand services and increase revenue.
• Stay updated on industry trends and apply best practices in operations.
• Unit/Financial Management
• Control operational budgets, ensuring cost efficiency and profitability.
• Meet financial targets for sales, costs, and profitability, and manage procurement for cost-effective purchasing.
• Ensure units operate within budget guidelines and prepare accurate budgets and forecasts.
• Monitor billing, financial results, leave liability, and manage debt collection and overtime billing.
• Identify additional business opportunities within existing contracts.
• General
• Stay updated on industry trends and suggest innovations for the business.
• Maintain team morale and motivation through strong communication.
• Attend meetings, training, and conferences as required.
• Ensure company objectives are met and manage client or management initiatives.
• Uphold the TCS brand, comply with legal requirements, and explore cross-selling opportunities.
• Over 5 years of middle management experience
• Expertise in budget management, forecasting, and financial reporting
• Skilled in managing large teams and client portfolios
• Knowledge of catering operations and healthcare safety regulations
• Proficient in staffing scheduling and task assignment
• Strong understanding of business management principles and industrial relations
• Excellent client relationship management and communication skills
• Leadership abilities with a focus on teamwork and collaboration
• Detail-oriented with a strong sense of urgency
• Effective problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure
• Capable of working independently
• Minimum Matric
• Relevant tertiary qualification and/or corporate catering environment experience.
• Knowledge of legislation relevant to the Catering industry and Botswana legislation.
• Experience in managing staff and a number of contracts
• Knowledge of Infection Control, food production and Safety regulations in healthcare environment
• Must have a valid driver’s license and own reliable vehicle
