About Marang Education Trust

The Marang Education Trust (MET), in partnership with Maskew Miller Learning is focused on best practice as an approach to improving the quality of teaching, learning and school management in South Africa.

Our purpose is to contribute to the education sector through direct provisioning of personal and professional development and support for public benefit in partnership with the Department of Basic Education (DBE).

The Trust is a SACE Accredited organisation and the corporate social investment initiative within Maskew Miller Learning.

Main purpose

As a District Development Facilitator, your role is to support the Research and Development Manager with the implementation of the MET District Development Programme in selected districts. The position reports to the R&D Manager and is based in the Northern Cape, serving the Pixley Ka Seme District.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Programme Implementation
• Assist in identifying areas for support within districts through rigorous research and analysis.
• Work closely with the R&D Manager to map and implement development interventions based on district needs identified through research processes.

Workshop Facilitation and Training
• Design and facilitate workshops aimed at building capacity for district officials, educators, and other stakeholders.
• Lead training sessions and offer mentoring and coaching to district officials to enhance their professional growth and development.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
• Maintain collaborative relationships with district and provincial education officials as well as external stakeholders.
• Work collaboratively within the MET team to ensure effective and efficient implementation of district development programmes.

Research and Evaluation
• Conduct monitoring and evaluation of education development initiatives by employing an action research approach.
• Assist with compiling formative and summative research reports to ensure projects align with needs, goals and deadlines.

Administrative Management
• Maintain an efficient administrative system, including keeping school and district information records and contact records up to date.
• Ensure all documentation and data related to district development are well-organized and easily accessible.

Project Coordination
• Coordinate district development projects, managing logistics, timelines, research and risks.
• Ensure project milestones are met, and quality control is maintained throughout the project lifecycle.

Reporting
• Submit regular progress reports within the programme framework, ensuring clarity and thoroughness in all submissions.
• Contribute to annual research reports, summarising findings, progress, and recommendations.

Travel and Tool Management
• Willingness to travel within South Africa as the programme requires.
• Manage tools of trade required for district development and support initiatives as per policy.

Educational Requirements
• Honours or Master’s Degree in education and a professional teaching qualification.
• A post-graduate qualification in the field of psychology is a strong recommendation.

Experience Requirements

Minimum of 5-10 years school/district development experience within government or the NGO/NPO education sector

Experience in:
• Designing and facilitating workshops
• Training and capacity building
• Coaching and mentoring of district officials, educators and/or other stakeholders in the education sector
• Research, particularly in monitoring and evaluation of education development initiatives
• Report writing
• Education leadership and management

Skills and Competencies

• Excellent verbal and written communication, including report writing and presentation skills.
• Research skills (data collection and analysis within an Action Research framework) and relevant computer expertise (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

• Good interpersonal skills, ethical sensitivity, attention to detail, and diligence.
• Self-motivated, dependable, flexible, and able to take initiative.

Knowledge
• Strong understanding of the education sector, especially at school and district levels.
• Familiarity with DBE policies concerning school and district roles and responsibilities.
• Understanding of social research methods within the MERL framework, particularly action research
