Duties & Responsibilities
Our reputable Construction client is seeking a SHE Officer (Construction/Renewable Energy/ Civils industry) to join their team based in De Aar – Northern Cape
Purpose of the job- Responsible for the effective implementation and improvement of all Health, Safety & Environmental matters as per legislation on each construction site assigned to.
Working Conditions- Normal offices conditions – 15%.
Dusty & noisy construction sites – 85%.
Salary:
Market-related depending on experience
Requirements:
• Qualifications listed- Grade 12 (Matric)
• Diploma/ degree in SHE- is a MUST
• Driver's licence and own vehicle
• Must be Registered with SACPCMP( South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions ) as a professional SHE Officer
• 3-5 years in the construction industry
• 3-5 years as a SHE Officer (must be for Civils)
• Incident Investigation- non negotiable
• Hazard Identification and risk assessment- non negotiable
• First aid level 1- non negotiable
• Must have OHS Act- non negotiable
• COID act
Key Performance Areas- Implementing the SHE policies, procedures, and all relevant forms.
Training and development of staff (formal and informal)
Training and development of the SHE representatives through formal and informal training and the implementation SHE Systems.
Execution of auditing functions (internal Tyris audits and on Sub Contractors).
Implementation of SHE Legal Compliance.
Give inputs to the development of SHE policies, procedures, and forms.
Keep employee personal files and the register up to date at all times.
Responsibilities:
• Safety Officers shall ensure that all the requirements in terms of the Act and in particular in terms of the Construction Regulations are met.
• You shall also ensure that all appointed contractors comply with the requirements as stipulated in the Construction Regulations.
• Safety Officers shall further ensure that all records, registers and required lists are maintained and shall stop construction work upon identifying any non-compliance by any contractors; this includes stopping any work should the competency of the person carrying out such work be questionable.
• The proper observance of selected actions/risks .
• Hold meetings with the safety representatives of the site or works or part thereof for which you are appointed at such times and places as you may arrange with the manager of the site or works.
• Meetings to be held once per month.
• Audits of sites in division to be done one a month.
• Investigate incidents and accidents, after establishing an incident investigations committee.
• Make recommendations for submission by the manager regarding any matter relating to the safety or health of persons employed in or at the site or works in question.
• Inspect the workplace or machinery for which you are appointed at such intervals prescribed by the Manager. In the course of any inspection, ensure that all reasonable safety and health measures have been taken in respect to the use or handling of machinery and the performance of work.
• Ensure safety equipment is maintained in good condition and properly utilized.
• Ensure the applicable requirements relating to safety and health of employees, whether or not the requirements have the force of law, are complied with
• Ensure all employees have been properly trained or possess the necessary qualifications for the safe execution of their work.
• If the person is not available, take necessary steps to avert any such immediate threat and report the matter as soon as practicable, but not later than the end of shift to the responsible person for that working place or machinery.
• Record daily all inspections, details, and places where inspections have been conducted.
• Co-ordinate all risk assessments and ensure training is being conducted for all Risk Assessments completed.
