Role: Entrepreneur In Residence (EIR) / Co-Founder
Location: Nairobi, Kenya (initially home-based)
Compensation: Significant equity as co-founder, with a fee upon closing of funding round
Start: ASAP.
Basis of employment: for discussion, open to freelance, or part time to start, but in the medium term this is about being at the heart of this startup
Reporting to: ARK CEO (initially); Startup Board (later)
About us
Are you an entrepreneurial leader driven by purpose and impact? Do you want to reshape healthcare for underserved populations? YuBuntu, developed by ARK Venture Studio, is at the forefront of providing affordable healthcare, education, and wellness solutions for the missing middle in Kenya. Our platform leverages a free interactive WhatsApp chatbot for health education, prevention, and lead generation, coupled with innovative insurance and wellness offerings.
YuBuntu is live in Kenya with the APA Femina Plus product, offering a combination of cancer prevention, early diagnosis, and financial protection. We're now looking for a dynamic leader to scale the business, grow our local presence, and prove a model in Kenya that we can eventually expand across Africa.
The new co-founder will work alongside the other co-founders, who have brought the venture to its current state. The team is supported by the ARK venture team, providing strategic guidance, drive, expertise and decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
1. Business Leadership and Growth:
● Lead and scale YuBuntu’s operations in Kenya (and beyond).
● Develop and execute business models, build revenue streams, and set commercial goals.
● Oversee a local team and ensure operational excellence as the business grows.
2. Product and Market Development:
● Scale the current product offering and identify new opportunities in the health and insurance sectors.
● Iterate and expand the product suite, addressing the unique healthcare needs of the local market.
3. Strategic Partnerships:
● Build and nurture relationships with key partners (insurers, health providers, distributors).
● Expand distribution through existing and new channels.
4. Fundraising:
● Drive funding rounds by developing investment cases and pitching to investors.
● Help secure strategic capital to accelerate scaling efforts.
Our Ideal Co-Founder:
We are looking for a passionate entrepreneur with a proven track record in building and scaling startup businesses, ideally in the healthcare, insurance, or insurtech space in Kenya or other African markets.
Must-Haves:
● Entrepreneurial Experience: Proven track record of taking startups from 0 to 1 and 1 to 10, achieving product-market fit, driving revenue and raising money from VCs.
● Kenya Market Expertise: Strong knowledge of the health and insurance sectors in Kenya, with a deep network of contacts.
● B2B Sales and Partnership Skills: Expertise in forming partnerships, structuring deals, and managing business development efforts.
● Mission-Driven: Passion for addressing health inequities in underserved populations.
● Accreditations: Appropriate background, professional experience & education to support agency licensing.
Nice-to-Haves:
● Experience in Healthtech, Insurtech, or Edtech.
● Previous Exits: Experience leading startups to successful exits or major growth milestones.
