Purpose of the Role
As an Independent Trustee, you will play a vital role in ensuring that the Trust operates efficiently and in accordance with its Deed, safeguarding the Trust’s assets and ensuring they are utilized effectively to benefit the Mapela community. You will collaborate with fellow Trustees, oversee the management of assets, and guide the strategic direction of the Trust and its subsidiaries. This includes participating in investment decisions, governance, and community engagement to achieve long-term sustainable development.
Ideal Candidate
We are seeking independent, impartial individuals who have a passion for community development and a strong background in governance, finance, or strategic leadership. Candidates must have no direct affiliation with the Mapela Traditional Community or Anglo-American Platinum.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide strategic leadership and governance oversight for the Trust.
• Ensure compliance with the Trust Deed and fulfill the Trust’s objectives.
• Manage the financial stewardship of the Trust and its assets.
• Collaborate with fellow Trustees to oversee the Trust’s subsidiaries, MRIH and MCF NPC.
• Ensure that the Trust’s resources are used effectively for the benefit of the community.
• Act as one of the Trust’s authorized signatories and, if required, as Chairperson of the Board.
• Provide financial and technical advice regarding the business and affairs of the Trust.
• Engage with community stakeholders to ensure alignment with community development goals.
Minimum Requirements
• Independence: Must not be a member of the Mapela Traditional Community or an employee of Anglo-American Platinum or its group of companies.
• Strong governance experience, ideally as a board member or trustee.
• Proven financial acumen and experience overseeing disbursement and management of assets.
• Experience in community development or rural economic upliftment projects.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with multiple stakeholders.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to the long-term vision and mission of the Trust.
