Position Information

Temporary appointments may be cancelled or extended at any time.
Successful candidates may be appointed from a few days up to one

This is a Temporary and/or hourly intermittent appointment. No
probationary period. No permanent status is granted.

Conditions of Employment

Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal
records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a
conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the
background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is
discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified
information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background
check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee
who was conditionally offered the position.

The salary range for this classification is: $13.00 to $140.00 per
hour depending on the position assigned.

Department Marketing Statement

Department: Testing Center

The CSUDH Testing Center works in conjunction with Educational
Testing Services (ETS) and the Chancellor's Office to coordinate
and provide local and national exam events for the undergraduate,
graduate, and the greater university community.

Position Summary

The CSUDH Testing Center recruits and utilizes test proctors to aid
in the administration of the EPT/ELM, GWE, SAT and GRE Subjects.
Saturday exams are administered 1-2 Saturdays a month. Staff
members are expected to report promptly at 6:45 am. Exams may
conclude as late as 2:00 pm. All associate and proctor positions
are on a voluntary and temporary basis.

Qualifications

Prospective Staff Members should possess the following
qualifications: Be 18 years of age or older. Be a Non-CSU Employee
or be an EXEMPT CSU Employee. Be able to effectively communicate
verbally and in written form. Be able to work in a team atmosphere
with interruptions. Be able to effectively address situations of
academic dishonesty. Be able to uphold the confidentiality and
integrity of given examinations.

Preferred Qualifications

Have completed a bachelor degree or higher. Have some experience in
administering standardized tests.

Associate supervisors must:

Have some experience in administering standardized tests. Have the
ability to read directions clearly to test takers and to complete
forms, and possess unquestionable integrity and be able to handle
groups of test takers in an effective, efficient and friendly
manner.

Proctors must:

Have the ability to interact effectively and courteously with test
takers and test center personnel, be able to explicitly follow oral
and written instructions, and be alert to detect instances of
improper conduct or theft of test materials.

Responsibilities

Associate Supervisors (room supervisors) are responsible for
conducting a secure, valid administration. They are accountable for
everyone in the testing room and everything that takes place in
that room. They must follow all testing regulations and refrain
from engaging in any tasks that are unrelated to testing.

Associate supervisors perform the following duties: Review the
contents of the appointed Exam Supervisor Manual prior to the test
date and be able to apply the required procedures for managing
their testing rooms; arrive at the test center at the specified
time to receive materials and their room assignments; verify the
count of test materials assigned and record test book serial
numbers on the Associate Supervisor's Report. Admit test takers
according to directions; verify identification as required and
assign seats; distribute test books to each test taker individually
and in serial number order. Read aloud the specific instructions
exactly as printed in the Supervisor's Manual to the test takers,
adhere strictly to allotted testing time, and remain in the testing
room as required. Immediately report any irregularities to the test
center supervisor, document the irregularities on a Supervisor's
Irregularity Report and sign it. Collect test materials according
to instructions; strictly account for all used and unused test
materials; complete and return all reports and forms to the test
center supervisor. Promote good public relations by answering
procedural questions and handling complaints or disturbances in a
courteous and professional manner. Direct and supervise the
proctors who assist them. Refrain from using their personal cell
phones or text messaging during the test administration. Advise
test takers that they are prohibited at all times from taking
photos or recordings of any kind in the test center, including
during the administration or breaks.

Hall proctors and room proctors assist the associate supervisor
staff with test administration duties.

Proctors do not administer the test. The duties of each proctor
depend on the type of assistance required by the exam supervisor
and associate supervisor(s). Proctors generally perform or assist
in performing the following functions:Post directional signs;
direct test takers to the reporting site, testing rooms and rest
rooms. Arrange testing rooms; answer test takers general
(procedural) questions; check test takers admission tickets and
identification. Direct test takers to their specific seats;
distribute and collect test materials to and from each test taker
individually; walk around the room frequently to guard against
improper conduct and to ensure that every test taker is working on
the appropriate section of the test; check that test takers are
marking their answers properly on their answer sheets.Check rest
rooms immediately after the test begins, and periodically
thereafter, to be sure that the rooms contain no testing aids (for
example, books, notes, writing on towels or walls). Monitor and
account for test materials periodically throughout the testing.
Refrain from using their personal cell phones or text messaging
during the test administration. Advise test takers that they are
prohibited at all times from taking photos or recordings of any
kind in the test center, including during the administration or
breaks.
