JOB DESCRIPTION
Salary:
Pay Scale 23 (LLB and CLE) $71,851
Location:
1 Treasury Lane, Belize City
Closing date:

Suitably qualified applicants are invited to fill the positions of Magistrate.
Applicants must:
• be in possession of Bachelor’s in Law (LLB)
• be in possession of Continuing Legal Education (CLE)
• Age Limit: 25-49
Analysis of the position:
• Tries persons charged with committing summary offences;
• Conducts preliminary inquiries into indictable charges;
• Hears and determines applications made under the Domestic Violence Act;
• Hears and determines applications made under the Family and Children’s Act;
• Hears applications made by the Belize Tax Service and Fisheries Department;
• Hears applications for Liquor Licenses;
• Serves as Coroner and conducts inquests into unnatural deaths;
• Can be assigned to any judicial district within Belize;
• Attends conferences, workshops and training in relation to capacity building of the Magistracy;
• Prepare Memorandum of Reasons for Decisions in a timely manner;
• Assists with the training needs of the department as required;
• Prepares appeals as required;
• Prepares statistics and reports as required;
• Must be computer literate with word processing proficiency;
• Is accountable to the Chief Justice, Chief Magistrate and the Judicial and Legal Services Commission.
