The Corporate Strategy Manager role supports Jardine Matheson, the Group’s listed holding company, in effectively managing our current portfolio of businesses and informing active evolution of this portfolio.

The Individual Will Be Part Of a Small Team At Jardine Matheson Composed Of Strategy And Transactions Experienced Colleagues, Which Assists Senior Management Across Several Areas
• Provides active support to inform our shareholder representatives who sit on Group company boards
• Assesses each of these investments consistently and facilitates alignment of and assessment against a Jardine Matheson portfolio strategy framework to evolve the portfolio over the long-term
• Supports analysis on and execution of Group-level investments / divestments across existing and new sectors, anchored on the portfolio strategy objectives
• Drives analysis and insights for other Group special projects

The Group Chief of Staff, who is also a Group Director and reports to the Group Managing Director, is responsible for this team. The role offers extensive exposure to senior management across Jardine Matheson and as relevant, our Group businesses and networks of business partners, investors and other stakeholders. The role offers the opportunity to create significant impact on our portfolio and the Group’s future direction.

Individuals with outstanding performance in the role will be part of the Group strategic talents pool and considered for development opportunities across our portfolio of businesses. Corporate development and general manager positions in a Group business are potential future career paths for this role. The Corporate Strategy manager position is distinct from that of the Jardine Matheson Corporate Finance Manager position.

Job Responsibilities
• Cover one or more key Group businesses as the dedicated support for our Board representatives, analysing company performance, market conditions and trends, competitive positioning and other factors to evaluate opportunities, challenges and risks to the businesses;
• Consolidate and synthesize disparate information from Jardine Matheson operating businesses combined with external market dynamics to develop and articulate a coherent Group-level portfolio view with implications to the Board, holding company senior management and other stakeholders;
• Support potential investments / divestments across the deal lifecycle, including opportunity research, due diligence, execution and post-deal management
• Develop a Jardine Matheson Group-level view and display measured judgement and discretion on various special projects topics
• Establish trusted relationships with our Board representatives, senior Jardine Matheson leaders and other key stakeholders to become a go-to repository for perspective on strategic issues impacting relevant Group businesses and sectors;
• Inform the dialogue, encourage debate on priority topics, facilitate communication and idea exchanges between Jardine Matheson and its operating businesses

Job Requirements

Business acumen
• Possess excellent academics from leading institution(s) with 9-15 years of post-qualification experience
• Top performer from amongst the following categories:
• Project leader or above in top tier management consulting firm with proven track record of advising clients across relevant sectors in Asia
• Former management consultants holding roles in corporate strategy, corporate development, innovation or a GM role at a leading MNC
• Operating/investment professional in institutional or private equity fund with a long-term value creation mindset
• Buy-side public equity research professional with a long-term coverage focus, preferably in sectors of relevance to the existing Jardines portfolio
• Sector coverage/M&A investment banker with significant client exposure in sectors of relevance to the existing Jardines portfolio
• Distinctive ability to synthesize commercial fundamentals and company specifics to develop an informed long-term investor view
• Cross-cultural awareness having lived and worked in Asia

Strategy and investments
• Conceptual thinker and intellectually flexible
• Ability to navigate and diagnose complex issues, work through ambiguities and develop compelling business cases and holistic recommendations
• Commercial judgement; calculated risk taker

Project management
• Experience in managing projects from conception to tangible outputs, designing workplans, articulating key issues to resolve, the analyses needed and executing the work

Influence and communications
• Relationship building, collaboration and personal influencing skills; high self-awareness
• Ability to navigate complex organisations
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; and other Asian languages is a strong plus (preference for Bahasa, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Cantonese).
