The City Librarian will manage the library, create programs for both children and adults that are designed to improve literacy and build community.

Encourage and create a welcoming, safe, respectful environment for all patrons

Maintain regular Library hours, a MUST

Help create and follow Library usage rules, expectations and policies

Maintain a clean and orderly Library building and grounds, and notify the City Office of any problems or issues

Meet with Library Advisory Board and attend trainings annually

Learn independently (example: through reading of websites, and communications with state library personnel) about library collection development, programming, trends, and other standard characteristics of what makes up good libraries

Communicate regularly with the City Manager about budget actions, and library expenditures

Recruit Library Aides/Volunteers/Community Service workers to offer and maintain library programs

Be proficient with computers, printers, office and security monitoring equipment

Refrain from conducting personal business during Library hours

Complete reports for Library grantors, and monthly reports for the City Council

Follow all grant requirements

The City Librarian will seek and create opportunities for residents of different age groups to build community though a variety of means, while celebrating the culture and traditions of our diverse community on the middle Kuskokwim River.

This is a permanent part-time position for under 30 hours a week. The starting wage is $20.00 an hour. There will be a 90-day probationary period, after which annual evaluations will determine pay increases and eligibility for our benefit package.
