Job Summary
Under the general direction of the principal investigators, serve as technician in support of the Mammalian Ecology and Conservation Unit. Provide scientific support for ongoing and upcoming research projects. Duties include performance of a variety of molecular lab techniques, database management, sample management, and record keeping. Other duties may include data analysis, report and manuscript assistance, and performance of related activities as assigned.
Initial placement will be $22.11/Hour, commensurate with educational background and relevant working experience.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license, certification and/or educational degree if required of the position.
• Experience and training in biological sciences, ecology, genetics or related fields with core course work education at the college level.
• Experience with generating molecular genetic data and managing databases.
• Experience with field work and biological sample collection.
• Skill with PCR and DNA extraction protocols from a variety of tissues and template concentrations.
• Skill with agarose gel electrophoresis and fragment sizing using flatbed instruments, and capillary gel electrophoresis such as ABI DNA Sequencer(ABI 3730) and accurate fragment sizing using software such as STRand.
• Skill with sequencing DNA fragments using commercial kits.
• Skill to effectively teach laboratory techniques to laboratory trainees and students with varying educational levels.
Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge of molecular genetics, including experience extracting DNA from a variety of biological samples, PCR, and other basic molecular laboratory skills.
• High attention to detail with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work on assigned projects unsupervised.

Department Overview
To conduct research that advances both the persistence of wild mammal biodiversity and our basic understanding of mammal evolution and ecology. In this context, the Mammalian Ecology and Conservation Unit (MECU) is an educational entity, providing opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students, as well as post-doctoral researchers. We collaborate internationally and locally with other academic investigators and work closely with state, federal, and local agencies to ensure that our research has practical application.
