YLSS is looking for a lawyer experienced in family law. Legal aid lawyers are responsible for providing legal representation to vulnerable and disadvantaged Yukoners who lack the necessary resources to effectively access the justice system.

• Experience representing clients in family law matters, particularly matters related to decision making, custody, parenting time, access, child support and spousal support
• Ability to develop appropriate family law strategies and advise clients accordingly
• Excellent advocacy, negotiation, and communication skills
• Experience working with vulnerable and marginalized clients
• Ability to meet deadlines in a fast paced, highly demanding environment
• Ability to stay organized while managing a heavy caseload
• Reliable, resourceful, flexible and a strong problem solver
• Ability to work independently or collaboratively within a team
• Strong interpersonal and time management skills
• Excellent legal drafting and legal research skills
• A compassionate approach to the practice of family law
• A trauma-informed approach to client service

The hiring preference for this position is qualified candidates with Yukon First Nations and other Indigenous ancestry.
Prior experience working for legal aid will be considered an asset.
All applicants must be members of good standing of a Bar in Canada and eligible to be called to the Yukon Bar. Starting compensation is based on relevant experience.
