Dettagli del lavoro

Inclusion Yukon Society is a non-profit organization that works to promote meaningful inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities into community life. We provide advocacy, public-awareness and education, and program support. Our main focus is providing one-on-one support tailored to each individual through day programming and job coaching. We also offer other programs such as respite services, and youth mentorship programs.

Job Description

We are currently looking to hire full-time support workers to provide job coaching and day program support to neurodiverse individuals.

Job coaches provide ongoing observation and assessment of the employee’s ability to complete job duties, and make recommendations for additional supports. The goal is to support both employee and employer as the employee becomes self-sufficient and able to perform job duties accurately and effectively without assistance, or support them in learning new skills and responsibilities that match their strengths.

The main details of employment support are:
• Attending shifts with clients, and helping them learn and accurately carry out job duties
• Assess the client's skills and attributes and how to effectively apply them to their job.
• Troubleshooting any challenges that may impact their job development
• Supporting employers to encourage inclusive work ethic among all staff

Inclusion support workers teach life skills and support their clients to be able to live as independently as possible. They also recognize that being an advocate for their client is very important, and they work to ensure that the people they support are treated fairly and equitably in all aspects of life.

Job duties for inclusionary support workers include:
• Attending appointments with clients
• Helping with meal planning and grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, and laundry duties
• Helping to budget and manage finances
• Scheduling physical and recreational activities
• Providing transportation to and from client homes on a regular basis

Hours of work are in the daytime, generally Monday to Friday, between 9am to 5pm.

Qualifications

The successful applicant will have relevant post-secondary education and/or experience in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. They must possess strong interpersonal communication skills, knowledge of positive practices for managing challenging behaviour, and the ability to manage a variable weekly schedule. Awareness of proper protocols when handling sensitive information is also a must.

Regular communication with the caregivers, social workers, and the Inclusion Yukon program supervisor will be expected from the support worker to outline goals and a learning plan for the individual. Working in the community with different partners to deliver on our mandate to fully include persons with disabilities in all walks of life, while maintaining the person’s safety is a priority. A sense of adventure and frivolity with a healthy dose of common sense is necessary.

Job requirements:
• MUST be available to work Monday to Friday, between 9-5

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
