Our client provides reinsurance of asset intensive policies such as annuities, issued in the United States and Asia, and has a strong commitment to underwriting discipline and financial strength.
The Chief Actuary is a strategic leader and a key member of the leadership team. The Chief Actuary will have responsibility for a broad range of tasks including new business pricing, valuation, modeling, and reporting. In addition, the role will support the Chief Finance Officer with various tasks including financial analysis, capital planning and regulatory reporting. The ideal candidate will be a strategic leader with a solid balance between industry knowledge and technical proficiency with the ability to drive change, navigating ambiguity and producing commercial results.
This position will be based in Bermuda.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead pricing and risk analysis for all new business opportunities.
• Work in partnership with the business development team to determine client objectives and structure reinsurance solutions appropriately.
• Ownership of actuarial valuation and assumption setting process in collaboration with external Approved Actuaries
• Lead the actuarial aspects of financial reporting, business planning projections, as well as regulatory filings.
• Performing in-depth experience analysis on life and annuity decrements and policyholder behavior.
• Recruit, onboard, and develop the actuarial team.
• Serve as the actuarial liaison with external auditors, external Approved Actuaries, and the regulator.
• Work closely with the Chief Risk Officer on the design and documentation of actuarial controls and critical actuarial risk governance policies.
• Support underwriting and claims audits of client files.
• Other ad hoc projects and tasks as required.
Minimum Requirements, Skills & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline such as mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, etc.
• Fellow of the Society of Actuaries or equivalent designation.
• 10 years’ post-fellowship relevant actuarial experience with a strong preference for annuity reinsurance and asset modeling exposure.
• Previous experience in pricing and valuation of annuity products or blocks of policies.
• Advanced knowledge of key financial reporting, accounting, and solvency regimes, including Bermuda Solvency and Solvency II, US GAAP, US Statutory, and US tax.
• Experience with actuarial valuation software such as MG-ALFA or AXIS a must, experience in general programing and systems automation a plus.
• Experience with actuarial valuation process design, controls, and automation.
• Familiarity with fixed deferred annuities (FIA, MYGA).
• Capable of summarizing and communicating complex topics clearly and succinctly across all levels and functions of the organization.
• Able and willing to work on multiple projects and meet tight deadlines as needed.
