Job Summary: Watoto is seeking to recruit a Social Worker to rescue vulnerable children from situations of abuse, neglect, and other forms of maltreatment to ensure that their social, physical, psychological, and emotional well-being are supported.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Identify and rescue orphans and vulnerable children from situations of abuse, neglect, and other forms of maltreatment in the communities.
• Conduct initial vulnerability assessment of the child, and caregivers and make appropriate recommendations to the Homes Core Team.
• Develop appropriate care management, referral, and integration plans for children in consultation with the Homes Core Team.
• Engage and coordinate with other child protection agencies in the community for effective care management and make referrals for cases where it is not possible for interventions to be made.
• Engage vital stakeholders in the tracing process and engage identified existing biological families to develop resettlement plans.
• Coordinate with the other social workers to provide psychosocial support to children, youth, and young adults in Suubi Children's Village.
• Ensure that all relevant information that pertains to a child is accurately recorded with consistency and maintain an updated risk register and case file for child protection breaches.
• Implement action plans and recommendations from child protection response meetings.
• Maintain a good working relationship with other Non-Government Organisations, other like-minded churches, and government personnel for learning and referral purposes.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
• The applicant for the role should hold at least a minimum of a degree in one of the following fields Counselling, community psychology, social work and social administration, social sciences, or any related relevant field.
• At least three years of work experience working with vulnerable children in a social development position managing child welfare, protection, behavioural change and counseling, case management, and having experience in handling challenges associated with children in vulnerable and violent circumstances.
• Demonstrated experience in proposal writing and good computer skills such as MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications.
• Extensive knowledge of both national and international laws relating to children.
• Conversant on all matters of child protection and safeguarding and have a good track record of respecting and protecting the rights of children.
• Should be a team player, result-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work under minimum supervision.
