The Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at
Harvard University seeks applications for a preceptor in Persian
language. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2025. The
preceptor will be responsible for teaching five courses per
academic year, participating in curricular development, program
activities, and training and supervising teaching fellows. The
initial position term is for one year, renewable for up to eight
years, contingent on performance, enrollments, curricular need,
position availability, and divisional dean authorization. Please
note that permanent residency sponsorship is not available for this
position; visa sponsorship is available.
Basic Qualifications:
The successful applicant will have native or near-native fluency
and demonstrated excellence in teaching Persian language at all
levels, from elementary to advanced, integrating spoken Persian
with standard Persian in teaching and course materials, as well as
using communicative approaches to teaching undergraduate and
graduate learners. The successful applicant will be committed to
ongoing professional development and developing new course
materials.
Additional Qualifications:
Proven experience working in coordination with faculty, including
organizing cultural programming and events. Well versed in
student-centered, proficiency-based language instruction and
incorporating technology into instruction. Experience teaching
thematic courses (e.g., literature, film, media). A bachelor's
degree (or the equivalent) is required; a PhD in Persian language
or literature or another field relating to Persian studies is
preferred.
