Job Summary
The Executive Director of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions is
a leadership position reporting to the Senior Associate Vice
President (SAVP) for Enrollment Management and serves as a key
member of their leadership team. The Executive Director will
inspire, motivate, and equip the staff with the vision, skills, and
confidence to execute an ambitious enrollment agenda for San Jose
State University. Lead both the admission and student outreach and
recruitment (SOAR) teams in the development and implementation of
strategic plans, including the creation of actionable goals aligned
to the strategic enrollment plan of SJSU. Develop strategies and
initiatives to secure and strengthen SJSU’s market position as an
institution of first choice to prospective students, families,
school educators, and community-based organizations. The Executive
Director will also provide oversight of the team responsible for
the effective recruitment to high school students and their
families, community college students; returning students; welcome
center; admissions operations including, verifying CSU admission
eligibility for residents and nonresidents including international
students; reviewing appeals; rendering admission decisions;
interdepartmental collaboration; and posting transfer credit. Build
collaborative partnerships with the campus and community to build
operational efficiencies and support student success that includes
other enrollment verticals on the campus, including fully online,
self-support, and graduate enrollments as appropriate.
In collaboration with key campus stakeholders, provides leadership
in developing and delivering high-quality communication and
technological tools as well as excellent customer service
standards. The Executive Director will take a lead role with
institutional IT on how the admissions CRM (Technolutions Slate)
and other systems and technologies can serve admissions and campus
in terms of data integrity and automated functionality to improve
the student experience from the initial point of outreach through
enrollment. Furthermore, the Executive Director will engage a team
of admission professionals and ensure their development as managers
of the various work functions required to run a modern admission
office, including the development of process and project management
skills, strategic planning, budget management, measurement and
accountability, admissions practices and policies, and constituent
communications. The Executive Director represents the university
and division on internal campus committees.
Key Responsibilities
• Maintains deep knowledge of the federal, state and local
political climate and enrollment data trends in order to evaluate
the impact on our campus enrollment, and makes appropriate
recommendations.
• Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, California
State University and campus policies and procedures related to
outreach and recruitment, undergraduate admission, international
undergraduate admission and posting of transfer credit
• In order to enhance productivity and ensure efficiencies, the
Executive Director will identify and advance the use of technology
to further enhance the predictive analytics for San Jose to better
plan for each enrollment cycle
• Works with appropriate admissions groups to ensure that all
international applications are processed, evaluated, admitted,
notified and the department meets SEVIS regulations for 1-20s
• Collaboratively works with the Director for Student Outreach
& Recruitment (SOAR)
• Plans, implements and evaluates strategies for recruitment and
admission to meet university enrollment goals
• Collaboratively executes operational and service strategies to
achieve enrollment goals, providing strong guidance and clear
direction
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Ability to communicate with constituents in a professional and
respectful manner
• Demonstrated understanding of federal, state, CSU, and SJSU
recruitment, admission, international admission, and transfer
credit policies and practices
• Working knowledge of enrollment services policies and
procedures, including Student Information Systems (PeopleSoft),
transfer credit articulation agreements, and residency
requirements
• Demonstrated ability to translate business processes into
functional and technical requirements
• Demonstrated ability to train and lead Individuals in a team
effort to accomplish institutional and divisional goals and
objectives
• Demonstrated ability to research, understand, and apply a
variety of state, federal, CSU, and SJSU policies and
procedures
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and
appropriately handle sensitive communications within the university
and with external agencies
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field
• Five (5) years of relevant and progressively responsible
management experience in an institution of higher education in
Admissions & Outreach
Preferred Qualifications
• Master’s Degree in a related field
• Seven (7) years of relevant and progressively responsible
management experience in an institution of higher education in
Admissions & Outreach
Compensation
Classification: Administrator III
Anticipated Hiring Range: $12,487/month - $13,200/month
CSU Salary Range: $6,563/month - $21,066/month
The final hiring salary will be commensurate with experience.
