Position Summary

BCIT’s School of Energy is seeking a regular, full-time (1.0 FTE) Faculty, Electrical Engineering and Technology. BCIT’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Technology offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering as well as diplomas in electrical engineering technology with options in automation and instrumentation, electrical power and industrial control, and telecommunications and networking. BCIT is a leader in hands-on practical education. We are looking for individuals passionate about learning and teaching to join our team.

We are seeking one full-time Instructor (available as one full-time (1.0 FTE) or two part-time (0.5 FTE) positions) to deliver lectures and laboratory activities, develop course material, evaluate student progress, supervise student projects, and support the day-to-day operations of the department. As a valued member of our team of respected faculty with extensive industry experience and knowledge, the successful candidate will bring practical skills to the classroom, inspiring and guiding future practitioners in their field.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in subject areas related to electrical engineering. As a passionate educator, they will leverage their expertise to engage and challenge students, fostering a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.

Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible to meet the course learning objectives, participate in department activities, engage with team members, support continuous improvement initiatives within the department, and other duties as specified in the collective agreement.

The candidate must have experience using electronics lab equipment (power supplies, function generators, spectrum analyzer, oscilloscopes, etc.) and a solid foundation in three of the following areas:
• Real-time embedded systems, including software and hardware design
• Industrial network design and experience with deterministic networks
• Digital signal processing including algorithm and filter design
• Software engineering, including modern design methodologies and knowledge in data structures and algorithms, as applied to electrical engineering.

In addition, experience in one or more of the following areas will be an asset:
• Schematic and PCB design
• Electromagnetic interference and compatibility testing
• Computer simulation tools such as MATLAB®, LabVIEW®, Octave, etc.
• Programming in Python, C, C++
• Post-secondary teaching experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering.
• Minimum five years of relevant hands-on industry experience.
• Registration (or eligibility to register) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) is required.
• Effective command of the English language – both written and oral.
• Effective interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work in teams and independently.
• A proven record of professional development to stay current with new technologies and industry practices and a strong desire to maintain this currency.
