ABOUT THE COMPANY
As part of its long-term policy to ensure political and social harmony, enhance economic growth and alleviate poverty, Government of Uganda embarked on a far reaching program of decentralization reform. The reform initiative, as introduced in 1993 was an outcome of a review of the erstwhile resistance council system and related statutory instruments, borne out of the desire to make local governments effective centers of decision making and public service delivery.
JOB SUMMARY
To provide technical support and guidance in the implementation of plans, programmes and strategies for improved quality and quantity of veterinary products and productivity in the City.a) Academic QualificationsBachelor’s degree of Veterinary Medicine (BVM)/ from a recognizedUniversity/institutionb) Work ExperienceAt least three (3) years of relevant working experience in the field of Veterinary practice at Veterinary Officer Level in Government or a reputable organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
i. Supervising and monitoring the development of milk and beef farms in collaboration with the City Production Officers,ii. Providing technical advice on management of ranching schemes and Government ranches.iii. Advising livestock farmers on appropriate beef and milk breeds to improve production and productivity.iv. Conducting examinations, diagnostic procedures and vaccinating animals to prevent diseases.v. Teaching City local government staff and farmers how to evaluate performance of livestock.vi. Encouraging and giving technical support on game ranching and croppingvii. Advising farm owners on nutrition, preventive healthcare and general care of livestockviii. Introducing economics of production in the pastoral farming systems.ix. Supervising livestock census.x. Monitoring beef and milk projects in the division.
