Maine Audubon is a widely respected conservation organization with headquarters located in Falmouth, Maine, and influence statewide. Our mission is to conserve Maine’s wildlife and habitat through conservation, education, and advocacy. We are seeking a Land Steward to implement a land stewardship program across our sanctuaries, including active land management and volunteer engagement. The position will be primarily based at our Gilsland Farm headquarters in Falmouth, Maine.

This position reports to the Director of Properties and will focus on restoring and maintaining habitat and user experience at our sanctuaries through site monitoring, trail & signage improvement, invasive plant management, and restoration plantings The role has been designed to support a growing Properties Department, expand Maine Audubon’s capacity to carry out sanctuary stewardship work, and engage the organization’s network of volunteers to accomplish stewardship goals.

The successful applicant will have core competencies in:

Habitat Management: Enhance Maine Audubon’s ability to care for the land we conserve and showcase to our local communities.

Volunteer Engagement: Utilize Maine Audubon’s network in order to bolster community engagement while accomplishing projects efficiently.

Essential Duties:

∙ Assist in the development and implementation of management plans for Maine Audubon sanctuaries

∙ Enhance trail systems; install and maintain kiosks, regulatory, and interpretive signs and boundary markers; and perform other property improvements as necessary.

∙ Utilize GIS to develop maps and geodatabases to catalogue infrastructure, invasive species, etc.

∙ Plan and lead biweekly volunteer work sessions for invasive species management and other volunteer work activities coordinated at the Land Steward’s discretion

∙ Work with Maine Audubon’s Volunteer Coordinator to track volunteer hours, milestones, and appreciation

∙ Maintain and implement new native gardens, plantings, and showcases around Maine Audubon sanctuaries
