The Senior Medical Officer works under the direction of the Director to assure the effective and efficient provision of community-based public health services, personal health services (children and adults), clinical laboratory services, community rehabilitation services and nutrition services. The post is accountable for the overall management and administration of the Community Health section including resource management, strategic planning, service delivery and program management. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Chief Medical Officer in health protection, be responsible for policy development and will be a key player in the strategic planning for the Department.
Applicants must possess a medical degree (M.D.; M.B., B.S.; M.B., CH.B. or D.O.); and Master’s degree or equivalent in Public Health (M.P.H.) or a relevant field of study (e.g. Master’s in Public Health Administration (M.P.H.A.), etc.). In addition the post holder must possess or be eligible for registration with the Bermuda Medical Council. At least ten years’ relevant experience in community medicine and/or preventive medicine setting, with experience in managing public health programmes within a multi-disciplinary team is also required.
