Overview

Partners in Hope (PIH) is a Malawian, Christ-centered, Non Governmental Organization (NGO) founded in 2001 on a robust commitment to support the National HIV and AIDS Response in Malawi. PIH has a Medical Centre that operates a general clinic (Dalitso); inpatient ward (Thandizo); an HIV and AIDS clinic; and providing support to Ministry of Health, CHAM and Private health facilities in Nine districts. PIH was awarded a Cooperative Agreement No: 72061221CA00010 “Client-Oriented Response for HIV Epidemic Control (CORE) Activity Component One (1)” by the United States of America PEPFAR through USAID. This award is for HIV Care and Treatment implementation in 9 districts: Scale up (Mulanje, Chikwawa and Lilongwe) Sustained (Nsanje, Dowa, Kasungu, Nkhotakota, Karonga, and Chitipa). Under the CORE Cooperative Agreement, PIH is seeking to recruit highly motivated individuals in various positions to be deployed in various locations:

HIV DIAGNOSTIC ASSISTANT (HDA) – 45 POSITIONS MULANJE

Job Overview:

The HIV Diagnostic Assistant provides direct HIV testing services to high-risk populations both at facility and community level. The incumbent is also responsible for facilitating linkage of new HIV+ and high VL clients to ART clinic to meet the

Roles and Responsibilities

95% of PLHIV are tested and linked to care and treatment

HIV Testing and Counselling both at facility and community level including syphilis testing

Screening of all targeted populations for index contacts i.e. new positives, clients with high viral load, newly initiated clients on ART

Conducting community follow ups of HIV index contacts and offer HTS in community setting

Offer PrEP services to clients testing HIV negative and ensure referral to other prevention services

Distribute HIVST kits to targeted clients

Collect blood samples for early infant diagnosis, viral load testing and discordant results and EQA

Linkage/Referral

Manage effective EID, viral load and syphilis client referral and linkage to other services

Track HIV sample transportation and coordinate patient follow up and return test results

iii. Quality improvement

Conduct routine quality assurance and control measures for HIV and syphilis rapid testing and ensure that documentation is done

Ensure complete and accurate documentation of all HTS related activities and keep appropriate records and write HIV and syphilis diagnostic services reports.

Participate in regular HTS/ART/PMTCT review meetings

Biannual participation in proficiency testing (failure to participate or score below 100 percent for two consecutive PTs will result in withdrawal of certificate).

Update HTS log book for the number of clients tested

Observe infection prevention measures at all times

Ensure that up to date SOPs and guidelines are available in HTS rooms and well displayed

Planning, Reporting and management

Develop weekly roster for HTS activities at facility level

Track and review HTS, EID, Viral load and syphilis stocks as well as safe custody of commodities and supplies

Periodically review all data collection tools and ensure that they are well updated before reports compilations

Compile monthly and quarterly reports and ensure they are timely submitted to CORE program and MOH i.e. HTS, VL, ICT reports

Review HTS points with the facility and ensure that work stations meet standards and are maintained clean

Store clients’ data appropriately and ensure confidentiality is maintained

Ensure adherence to the duty roster to avoid interruption of services

Maintain effective communication with supervisors and colleagues

Participate actively in site level planning and/or data review meetings

Establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues and clients at all times

b. Qualifications

Required

Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE)

Certified HTC Counsellor – holding certificate with successful completion of skills intensive training

Up to date proficiency testing.

Preferred

Oriented in viral load testing, Early Infant Diagnosis and syphilis testing

Strong interpersonal skills to engage community members.
