Job Vacancy – Human Resource Manager The Hunger Project (THP) is a global non-profit organization whose mission is to end hunger and poverty by pioneering sustainable, grassroots, women-centered strategies and advocating for their widespread adoption in countries throughout the world. Our programs throughout Africa, South Asia and Latin America are based on an innovative, holistic approach, which empowers women and men living in rural villages to become the agents of their own development and make sustainable progress in overcoming hunger and poverty.The Hunger Project Malawi, a branch of the Global Hunger Project has been operating in Malawi since 1999 and is currently operating programs and projects in nine districts; Blantyre, Chikhwawa, Dedza, Neno, Nsanje, Ntcheu, Phalombe, Salima and Zomba.Position SummaryThe primary purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive human resources support for THP Malawi across the spectrum of HR activities including recruitment, updating, and managing the Personnel manual and person files, performance evaluation management, employee development, and employee relations. The Human Resources Manager will report to the Country Manager and will be responsible for supporting and ensuring that HR policies and practices are administered in compliance with applicable Malawi laws and the Hunger Project policies. The position will work to ensure that HR activities run efficiently, effectively, and include conducting research on HR policies and practices; analyzing data and preparing reports and recommendations.Essential FunctionsCommunicate, administer, and ensure compliance with HR policies and procedures; conduct policy orientations and respond to employee questions;Recommend reviews and updates to ensure compliance with laws and regulations in Malawi, and provides input to the Country Manager, and the Senior Director, Global Operations on any new developments on employee policies or Employment Act;Work with the Country Manager, and HR Committee in addressing policy violations, prepare documentation and administer disciplinary actions in accordance with The Hunger Project Malawi policies and Employment law;Conduct monthly review of the employee health scheme and pension the service providers, Administer employee and dependent enrollments, changes, or terminations in compliance with the health and pension plans and THP Malawi policies;Manages staff leaves per THP policies and processes workers compensation claims in compliance with labor laws.Identify opportunities for improvement in employee relations to foster a positive and productive work environment;Provide objective perspective to both managers and employees in support of employee relation issues; report issues to Country Manager, and coordinate the investigation and response to any employee concerns or complaints;Provide day-to-day support and counsel to mangers in the areas of employee relations and policy interpretation; andCoordinate exit interviews and track trends that impact employee satisfaction and retention; provides annual report to Country Manager, HR Committee as well as global HR and Regional Office.Develop and implement a formal recruitment procedure that aligns with the Hunger Project practices;Assist Heads of Department with hiring as well as developing and updating job descriptions;Conduct candidate background reference checks and coordinate technical reference checks with the hiring Head of Department;QualificationsMust have Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or relevant field; and MBA, with a major in benefits management or labor lawMinimum Required: 3 years in HR setup, preferably Non-profit setting with remote team structure, and experience in a fast-paced environment with a small team.Proficiency with MS Office i.e., Excel, Word, and PowerPointGood knowledge of Employment Act and related law, including those related to anti- discrimination, work ethic, and employee / employer taxes.Sound judgment, able to troubleshoot problems, come up with creative solutions, while also identifying issues which need to be escalated;Strong teamwork and collaboration skills; ability to collaborate with colleagues and partners nationally and internationally;Self-driven and results-oriented, with a positive outlook;Ability to adapt and work in a very flexible, fluid, and evolving environment;High level of accuracy and attention to detailResourceful self-starter with ability to independently multi-task and prioritize.Commitment to THP’s values, including an understanding of and compatibility with our principles and philosophy.
